Gifted children have unique and inherent characteristics, and social, emotional and sensory sensitivities and intensities that often affect their behaviors. They can seem oppositional, argumentative, noncompliant, impulsive, selfish, lacking in compassion, oblivious to rules and social cues, hyperactive, distracted, overdramatic, or in a daze and out of step with other children and the world in general. They are often labeled as "too sensitive" and can be prone to throwing tantrums or having emotional meltdowns. The fact is, that any or all of these things can be related to normal inherent characteristics of gifted children - when these things are correctly identified, understood, utilized and supported, they can actually be turned into motivating and self-esteem building positives.
The Gifted Children 101 coaching program takes an in depth look into each individual characteristic found in gifted children, focusing on just one per session, helping you to identify how each may affect your child's views, perspectives, emotions, social interactions, education, and behaviors. Many "behavior problems" can be understood and or resolved by identifying the gifted characteristic behind the negative or confusing behavior, and using parenting strategies that work.
Identifying and understanding your child's uniquely gifted characteristics and traits, is paramount to being able to advocate for them, with family, at school, the doctors office, and beyond. Today, misdiagnosis is rampant among these children due to the fact that most medical professionals are not trained in gifted identification, they do not know how to identify the characteristics found in gifted children. Many medical and counseling professionals are not aware that normal characteristics of gifted, sensitive and creative children also mimic other disorders and disabilities. This has led to far too many children being assigned life altering labels such as; ODD, ADD, ADHD, Asperger's, and other behavioral, learning, or psychological disorders.
Further Parenting Gifted Children coaching can help to identify what is causing your child's distress and subsequent behaviors. Your coach will help you to become a proactive parent; to validate, instruct, question, teach and motivate your child in a way that teaches emotional intelligence, grows self esteem and self regulation and encourages not only compliance but the development of your child's own internal motivation. By learning of your child's unique intellectual, social, emotional and sensory makeup, understanding how they experiences the world around them and why they have certain reactions to it, you will then be equipped with everything you need to be your child's emotional coach. In turn, you can help them to understand their own unique makeup and needs, to develop self awareness, self esteem and valuable coping skills, giving them every thing they need to go out and pursue their own passions and dreams!

Each session may conclude with "homework" being assigned by the coach. Homework may consist of reading, listening to or viewing session related resources or information and/or mindfulness or journaling exercises, to be completed prior to the next coaching session. Homework is a very important part of the coaching process and the timely completion of it can greatly increase the enjoyment and benefits gained over the course of the coaching program.
